ABSTRACT

As humanity straggles to absorb the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, city logistics is one of the transport sectors that has been affected. The restriction measures applied, and the regional lockdowns had put significant pressure on the supply chain but also on the last mile delivery. City logistics stand before a crossroad with important challenges lying ahead and difficult decisions to be made. The transformation of the city logistics sector is inevitable as more and more countries join an alliance against climate change. In this framework, the present paper presents an enquiry concerning the residents' acceptance at the city of Thessaloniki, Greece on the possible implementation of night deliveries. A questionnaire-based survey was conducted and the analysis of the collected data is presented revealing that the residents are aware of night deliveries' occurring problems as well as their willingness to accept the implementation of such policy if all necessary precautions and measures are applied. © 2023 The Authors. ABSTRACT

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic has shown the importance of non-specific measures of infectious disease prevention, including the use of respiratory protective equipment. Despite the improvement in the epidemiological situation and gradual lifting of public health restrictions, some people keep wearing face masks. Objective: To analyze the use of respiratory protective equipment in accordance with COVID-19 face mask requirements and after the end of the mask mandate among medical students in Moscow. Materials and methods: The questionnaire-based survey was conducted in two stages in March 2021 and in March–April 2022 among 988 and 830 third year students of the Institute of Clinical Medicine, Sechenov University, respectively, to collect data on socio-demographic characteristics, the practice of wearing face masks in public places, and the incentives to use them. The observational study was carried out in March 2022 among 816 Russian and 96 foreign students by counting those wearing face masks in the classrooms. Results: We established that 97.5 % of the respondents used respiratory protective equipment during the period of restric-tive public health measures. The main reasons for doing that were a mask mandate due to coronavirus and the necessity of personal contacts with other people. The survey showed that masks were most often used in health facilities, supermarkets, pharmacies, subway, and at the university. During the first two weeks after abolishing mandatory wearing of face masks, 18.3 % of all the respondents continued their use, mainly out of concern for other people's health, of whom 9.9 % and 89.6 % were Russian and foreign medical students, respectively. The second survey demonstrated that 7.2 % of the Russian medical students kept wearing masks in some settings later on. In case of yet another increase in the COVID-19 incidence, 97.6 % of the respondents intend to use respiratory protective equipment and 74.7 % of them plan to recommend this preventive measure to their relatives. Study limitations: Due to the fact that only medical university students aged 20 to 23 took part in the research and in view of the short time period that had elapsed since lifting of masking requirements, it is of interest to survey various age and social population groups in a longer-term perspective. Conclusions: Medical students continue using respiratory protective equipment after the restrictions are lifted, mainly to pro-tect others. © Team of authors, 2022.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate the epidemiology of post-COVID conditions beyond 12 months and identify factors associated with the persistence of each condition. STUDY DESIGN: This was a cross-sectional questionnaire-based survey. METHODS: We conducted the survey among patients who had recovered from COVID-19 and visited our institute between February 2020 and November 2021. Demographic and clinical data and data regarding the presence and duration of post-COVID conditions were obtained. We identified factors associated with the persistence of post-COVID conditions using multivariable linear regression analyses. RESULTS: Of 1148 surveyed patients, 502 completed the survey (response rate, 43.7%). Of these, 393 patients (86.4%) had mild disease in the acute phase. The proportion of participants with at least one symptom at 6, 12, 18, and 24 months after symptom onset or COVID-19 diagnosis was 32.3% (124/384), 30.5% (71/233), 25.8% (24/93), and 33.3% (2/6), respectively. The observed associations were as follows: fatigue persistence with moderate or severe COVID-19 (ß = 0.53, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.06-0.99); shortness of breath with moderate or severe COVID-19 (ß = 1.39, 95% CI = 0.91-1.87); cough with moderate or severe COVID-19 (ß = 0.84, 95% CI = 0.40-1.29); dysosmia with being female (ß = -0.57, 95% CI = -0.97 to -0.18) and absence of underlying medical conditions (ß = -0.43, 95% CI = -0.82 to -0.05); hair loss with being female (ß = -0.61, 95% CI = -1.00 to -0.22), absence of underlying medical conditions (ß = -0.42, 95% CI = -0.80 to 0.04), and moderate or severe COVID-19 (ß = 0.97, 95% CI = 0.41-1.54); depressed mood with younger age (ß = -0.02, 95% CI = -0.04 to -0.004); and loss of concentration with being female (ß = -0.51, 95% CI = -0.94 to -0.09). CONCLUSIONS: More than one-fourth of patients after recovery from COVID-19, most of whom had had mild disease in the acute phase, had at least one symptom at 6, 12, 18, and 24 months after onset of COVID-19, indicating that not a few patients with COVID-19 suffer from long-term residual symptoms, even in mild cases.

ABSTRACT

Veterinary medicine is increasingly affected by animal owners having the opportunity to become better informed on pet health issues by using various internet resources. Using an online questionnaire including a section on clients' use of internet resources to obtain medical information, this study aimed to investigate veterinarians' estimates of the percentage of clients using internet resources, how often clients question veterinarians' professional medical advice based on online information, and veterinarians' attitudes towards clients' use of internet resources, across Austrian, Danish, and UK veterinarians (n = 641). The results show that 48.8% of respondents estimated that 40-79% of their clients use internet resources to find medical information. Further, 70-80% of respondents stated that they are occasionally challenged by clients questioning their advice based on online information. Although veterinarians recognized the potential advantages related to clients' use of internet resources, such as an increased acceptance of advanced diagnostics and treatments, they also highlighted clients' increased expectations or false impressions of small animal practices as potentially negative aspects in this context. As internet use increases, it seems likely that these issues will become increasingly important in the future.

ABSTRACT

In Bulgaria, vaccination coverage against the SARS-CoV-2 virus is low. The reasons for this fact are many and varied. The aim of the present study was to establish what the attitudes towards the COVID-19 vaccination process are among students from various specialties from several Bulgarian universities. In this research, 600 students participated, divided into two groups: Doctor of Medicine (MD) students (n = 300) and non-MD students, i.e., students of specialties, such as mathematics, engineering, finance and economics, law, human sciences, etc. (n = 300). Each respondent completed a questionnaire which was divided into three parts with closed questions. The mean age of all students was 21.19 ± 1.87 years (95% CI: 20.48-21.90). The female sex dominated among the analyzed participants (sex ratio: female/male = 1/0.85). Nearly 62% (371/600) of individuals declared that they have been COVID-19 vaccinated with at least one dose (p < 0.001). Overall, 33% of the participants sought information on vaccines from video sharing platforms and 36.0% (216/600) from social media platforms. From the conducted multivariable logistic regression the odds of vaccination against COVID-19 were 6.225 times higher in individuals with a positive attitude towards these vaccines than in people with a negative attitude towards them (p < 0.001). We have found that those students who trust the international health organizations had an OR of 2.365 (p = 0.004) to be SARS-CoV-2 vaccinated. We estimated that the odds of vaccination against SARS-CoV-2 among children were 4.794 times higher in parents (students) who had been vaccinated than in non-vaccinated parents (students) (p < 0.001). Our results could support the national public health organizations, the national educational/scientific systems, and the management of Bulgarian universities in making future decisions about the field of COVID-19 control and prevention.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: The post-COVID condition has become a social concern. Although the patient characteristics associated with the development of this condition are partially known, those associated with its persistence have not been identified. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional questionnaire-based survey among patients who had recovered from COVID-19 and visited the National Center for Global Health and Medicine between February 2021 and March 2021. Demographic and clinical data, and data regarding the presence and duration of post-COVID conditions were obtained. We identified factors associated with the development and persistence of post-COVID conditions using multivariate logistic and linear regression analyses, respectively. RESULTS: We analyzed 457 of 526 responses (response rate, 86.9%). The median patient age was 47 years. Of these, 378 patients (84.4%) had mild disease in the acute phase. The number of patients with symptoms at 6 and 12 months after onset or diagnosis was 120 (26.3%) and 40 (8.8%), respectively. Women were at risk of developing fatigue (odds ratio [OR]: 2.03, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.31-3.14), dysosmia (OR: 1.91, 95%CI: 1.24-2.93), dysgeusia (OR: 1.56, 95%CI: 1.02-2.39), hair loss (OR: 3.00, 95%CI: 1.77-5.09), and persistence of any symptoms (coefficient: 38.0, 95%CI: 13.3-62.8). Younger age and low body mass index were factors for developing dysosmia (OR: 0.96, 95%CI: 0.94-0.98 and OR: 0.94, 95%CI: 0.89-0.99, respectively) and dysgeusia (OR: 0.98, 95%CI: 0.96-1.00 and OR: 0.93, 95%CI: 0.88-0.98, respectively). CONCLUSION: We identified factors involved in the development and persistence of post-COVID conditions. Many patients, even those with mild conditions, experience long-term residual symptoms.

ABSTRACT

Background: It is important that physicians be aware of LH. We designed a questionnaire to determine physician awareness, knowledge, and behaviors regarding LH in clinical practice. Participants: A total of 499 questionnaires were completed by physicians in hospitals from 13 cities in Jiangsu Province, China. Key Results: Compared with physicians at tertiary hospitals, significantly fewer physicians at primary hospitals reported awareness of LH and its screening methods. The proportion of resident physicians aware of LH was significantly lower than the proportion of senior physicians. The proportion of physicians who could identify all LH risk factors among the low-GDP group was significantly higher than the high-GDP group. Only 38.7% of doctors could successfully identify all the hazards associated with LH, but more doctors in tertiary hospitals were able to do so compared to those in secondary and primary hospitals. Compared with tertiary hospitals, the proportions of primary and secondary hospitals with management processes were significantly lower. The proportion of doctors who educated patients regarding LH prevention and treatment in primary hospitals was markedly lower than in tertiary hospitals. Conclusions: Overall, physicians have an inadequate understanding of LH, especially in primary hospitals.

ABSTRACT

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has had a great influence on medical practice in Japan. In this study, an online questionnaire-based survey was conducted among doctors routinely involved in the treatment of asthma. The questions included in the survey pertained to their thoughts on asthma treatment amidst COVID-19, changes in their clinical approach toward patients with asthma, and the behavioral changes in patients in the pandemic era. The results revealed a significant impact of the pandemic on asthma treatment. Regardless of whether or not they were directly involved in the treatment of patients with COVID-19, the doctors had avoided using nebulizers in outpatient wards/clinics and routine pulmonary function testing. An increase in canceled appointments and inappropriate/non-adherence to treatment among their patients were noticeable. Furthermore, the survey revealed an extensive impact of the pandemic on the doctors engaged in asthma treatment irrespective of the differences in their medical backgrounds.
